Our children will learn French through a range of fun and interactive experiences: children will be introduced to new vocabulary through songs and stories, games and activities. Phonics will be taught explicitly (using pictures and actions) so that children have the key knowledge necessary to decode words and speak French with the correct pronunciation. They will have the resilience to persevere by building the confidence to ‘have a go’ at speaking, reading and writing in French, with increasing accuracy, creativity and independence.
In line with the National Curriculum, our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children skills in languages, through regular taught lessons. Children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. Children are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversational work, singing activities and games. As confidence and skill grows, children record their work through pictures, captions and sentences. All our children in KS2 will have regular language lessons and will take part in French themed Bastille Day where they will immerse themselves in French culture.
