Learning to Shape Our Future
To offer a wide variety of learning opportunities that develop children’s Design and Technology skills, using imaginative thinking, problem solving and providing opportunities to build their resilience.
We want our learners to work towards being global, Christian citizens to have the strength and resilience to evaluate, to identify questions, to answer these and to use these skills to allow them to problem solve when faced with challenges.
How We Learn
We want our children to be fascinated and curious enough to ask questions about the world around them by exploring products and evaluating their effectiveness. They will have the resilience to persevere at problem solving, find answers through a mixture of adult led and self-directed projects, by considering a challenge and developing a growth mindset in finding solutions to problems.
In line with the National Curriculum, our children will have opportunities to investigate through reading about existing products, exploring diversity in purpose, design and flavour in a variety of learning contexts. Children will be taught to explore, design, make and evaluate products using a range of tools and materials. The skills learnt will progress in challenge level and skill. Products made will be purposeful and relevant within the theme.
Each year, children will complete 2 DT projects which involve pupils being provided with a brief; evaluating existing products, designing, making and finally evaluating their own products. They will also participate in an International cooking and nutrition DT project, where they will learn about healthy eating, alongside recipes and foods from different countries and cultures.
